“She sure brings the sun to a cloudy day.” - August Fuller to Eve and Roarke, Desperation in Death[1]

Bella Eve “Belle”

First appeared in Born in Death (January, 2060)

Personal Information[]

Description[]

  • The baby was a knockout; pink, pretty, and plump. She has lively, dark blue eyes.[3]
  • Bright-eyed and curly-haired.[4]
  • Eve Dallas thought of her as a perfect pink-and-gold doll with big, bright staring eyes.[5] Eve thought she was ridiculously cute when she waved her rattle and made a gooing, cooing sound.[5]

Nicknames[]

Date of Birth[]

  • Supposition
    • Tandy Willowby was due to give birth on January 31st;[19] Mavis was due to give birth one week later, around February 7-ish.[20] When Mavis and Tandy were at home, after Tandy’s rescue, Mavis said she was due in ten days - puts day of rescue at, about, January 29th-ish.[21] Tandy gave birth that night and Mavis a few hours later at the same Birthing Center.[22]
    • Estimation of birth between January 26th and January 31st; the later hours of the 26th or the early hours of the 27th is probably. (For further breakdown of timeline see also Born) (return to section)

Potential Names[]

  • Vignette for a girl, Vidal for a boy: “They’re French. We’re experimenting with French names, and I ditched Fifi.”[23]
    • Peabody pointed out that, “Somebody will call her Viggy, which rhymes with piggy, so she’ll be Piggy Viggy in school.”
  • Berry “because the baby will be like our sweet little berry, and it could go for a boy or a girl.”[24]
    • Eve’s reply: “Fine, as long as it doesn’t mind being called Blueberry or Huckleberry or Boysenberry once it hits school age.”
  • Roofus and or Apricot: “Just trying them out.”[25]
    • Eve’s suggestion: “My advice? Keep trying.”

Interesting Facts[]

Bella Eve’s Outfits/Appearance[]

Leonardo went to town designing clothes for “his girls” throughout the series. Here were some examples of Belle’s outfits:

Innocent in Death[]

  • She wore some sort of dress in pale pink that fell in soft folds and flounces. There were bows in the shape of flowers in the baby’s soft crop of dark hair.[34]

Creation in Death[]

  • “A lacy white ribbon was tied around her hair, as if she’d been wrapped like a gift. She wore some sort of outfit with feet and a kind of sweater deal over it that may have been trimmed in actual fur. Over it all there was a bib -- due, Eve supposed, to drool -- that proclaimed: MY DADDY IS ICED![35]

Strangers in Death[]

  • “There were candy-striped ribbons tied in bows in the curls, drool dripping down the pudgy chin, and a huge, gummy grin.”[36]

Promises in Death[]

  • “The baby, Bella Eve, all pink and white and gold.” Her dress was pink and full and fluffy.[37]
  • Mavis wore a polka-dot tank and striped pants; Bella wore matching sleepwear.[38]

Kindred in Death[]

  • “Eve had an armful of chubby baby in foaming, lacy pink. Blonde curls in pink ribbons danced as Bella bounced.”[39]

Possession in Death[]

  • “A half a zillion sunny curls surrounded the baby’s happy face. Every single one bounced with tiny pink bows.[40]

Treachery in Death[]

  • “There was baby Bella decked out like a daffodil with her sunny curls, her chubby body tucked into a bright yellow sundress decorated with pink candy hearts” that “matched her mother’s hair.” She wore shiny pink sandals that were a mini version of her mother’s.[41]

Celebrity in Death[]

  • “Mavis bounced out, hair bundled up in a curly topknot, a sunburst of color in her snug top with her knee-length pants picking up the pattern with wide cuffs. On her hip, Bella wore similar pants in the same pink as the front door and a white top with Namaste spelled out in sparkling rhinestones.”[42]

Concealed in Death[]

  • “Bella laughed like a loon and shook her hot pink ruffled butt.”[43]

Obsession in Death[]

  • “Bella toddled across the floor as fast as her chubby little legs could manage, her face beaming smiles under its curly mass of sunny hair. She wore a rainbow, or so it seemed, with pretty pale colors swirling everywhere on some sort of skirted jumpsuit her father had, no doubt, designed for her. Her boots were pink poodles.”[33]

Apprentice in Death[]

  • “The birthday girl, the pretty little golden-haired sprite in a frothy, sparkly pink dress and sparkly shoes that flashed with lights...”[44]

Dark in Death[]

  • “Bella, blond curls falling under a hat with a puppy face and long floppy ears, waved her mittened hands...”[45]

Leverage in Death[]

  • “The kid wore what Eve decided was a Mavis and Leonardo-style slicker. Pink, lots of shiny, and decorated with rainbows. She wore boots with multicolored bows in lieu of laces, along with a frilly skirt, and a dazzling smile.” Pink unicorn clips tucked her hair back from her ridiculously pretty face, and she pulled one out and shoved it into Eve’s choppy hair.[28]

Vendetta in Death[]

  • “In a frilly pink sweater and blue pants with frills of pink lace on the hems, Bella sat on Summerset’s bony lap. Her golden curls bounced in a pair of miniature ponytails secured with rainbow bands.”[46]

Faithless in Death[]

  • “Her little high-top sneaks sent out echoes and bounced with lights as she danced in the foyer” (at their new house).[47]

Abandoned in Death[]

  • “The kid wore pink overalls over a flowered T-shirt, little pink work boots, and had a hard hat -- pink of course -- over her spill of golden curls.”[48]

Desperation in Death[]

  • Pink-and-blue shorts, sunny curls flying[49]

Payback in Death[]

  • “She wore cropped overalls in pink with big purple buttons to match the shirt under them. Her curly blond hair bounced, like her mom’s, in ponytails on either side of her ridiculously pretty face.”[50]

Random in Death[]

  • Red shorts and a shirt with a unicorn jumping over a rainbow.[51]

Passions in Death[]

  • Hair in two high tails on either side of her head, in bibbed shorts as blue as her eyes[52]

YANNIs[]

  • In Kindred in Death (June 2060), Bella Eve was said to be six months old[2]; if she was born at the end of January, she would barely be five months old.
  • In Innocent in Death, Peabody said she has Leonardo’s eyes,[53] which are gold.[54]
