Buzz (Illegal drug) – Amphetamine (stimulant). The mysterious blue powder that Eve and Peabody found in Boomer’s apartment in Immortal in Death contained “a standard amphetamine. You find it in Zeus, in Buzz, in Smiley. Hell, you can get a mild derivative of that in any over-the-counter pep-up,” according to Dickie Berenski. The powder was later identified as Immortality.[1]
In Visions in Death, Eve caught a case that “involved pals and their dispute over who had dibs on the last of the illegals -- a party mix of Buzz, Exotica, and Zoom -- they’d been toking on while lazing around on the roof of an apartment building on the West Side. The dispute had been resolved when one of the afternoon partyers had taken a header off the roof, clutching the last of the illegals in his greedy fist.”[2]
In Dark in Death, Loxie Flash popped a tab of Buzz before walking into Screw U, immediately lifting her mood, and later hit up her friend Janis for another tab.[3] Flash’s tox screen showed “vodka, a whiff of vermouth, pomegranate juice, and a lethal twist of cyanide. That’s in addition to the Buzz, Erotica, Zoner, and the champagne cocktail - champagne, bitters, sugar substitute, and a splash of grenadine - already in her system.”[4]
In Leverage in Death, Willimina Karson said she stopped going to parties with Jordan Banks because she wasn’t going to get caught up and have her name and her company (EconoLift) “splashed over the media by being photographed at some party where Erotica and Buzz are offered like canapés.”[5]
YANNI: Although it was clearly illegal in Immortal, Visions, Dark, and Leverage, Eve took an energy pill called lowercase buzz in Creation in Death: “Popped a buzz a couple hours ago. Always makes me thirsty. And... wired.”[6]
