Caring Hearts Pet Rescue – The SoHo shelter where Lorcan Cobbe adopted Sweetie in order to slit her throat and leave for Eve in Shadows in Death. It was founded six years ago by Tara Undall and Dory, and was a few blocks from their homes, 21 Worth. Tara’s husband offered veterinarian services, and Dory’s husband, an attorney, helped set it up as a non-profit. Their office manager was Michael, who took the application from Cobbe, posing as “Mr. Patrick,” a widower from Wexford who adopted a kitten for his fictitious nine-year-old daughter, “Colleen.” The adoption fee was $400, but Cobbe gave Undall $500, saying he wanted to make a donation: “He told me how happy this would make his motherless child.” He also purchased a pet carrier, but declined a collar, saying he wanted his girl to pick one out, and he left with the congratulations basket they offer in addition to the cat and carrier.[1]
