She and her wife were in Adelaide, Australia for three weeks, with another week to go, because she was working on a bio of Marcus Novack, who built schools and health centers in the Outback.
They were charter members of Femme Power, a lesbian-based activist group. They also belonged to a book club that was mostly women and helped out at a couple of shelters for battered women and rape victims. She also taught writing as therapy, as an outlet for self.
They ran what they called Positive Forces on Wednesday nights at Community Outreach on Canal. The social worker who coordinated was Suzanne Lipski, a tough and sharp 25-year vet with a clean record.
Her daughter and her fiancè lived on the third floor of the same building but were staying at their apartment while they remodeled for the upcoming baby.
