Ciprioni’s – Peabody described it as an “Italian place down in Little Italy. Inexpensive, good food. Noisy, usually crowded, slow service, terrific pasta.”[1] Waitstaff wore white bib aprons over their street clothes and moved at a turtle pace. Eve decided that when waitstaff didn’t have to bust ass for tips, it all came down to the food or the snob factor; from the looks of the process, and the simplicity of the decor, she figured the food must be superior.[2]
Someone crooned over the speakers in Italian, and the almost childlike murals that covered the walls were of Italian locales. Each table had stubby candles, like the one Tina Cobb kept in her keepsakes box in Remember When. Tina also kept a napkin from there and labeled it “Bobby, First Date, July 26, 2059, Ciprioni’s.”[1]
When Eve and Roarke ate there, they were given the best table in the house, according to the maître d’, Gino. That night’s pasta was spaghetti con polpettone [sic] (spaghetti and meatballs) and the special was rollatini di pollo; Gino had a waiter bring them a complimentary bottle of their Barolo, which he described as “handsome and bold, but not overpowering.” Roarke ordered the two-sauce lasagna and they had antipasto to start.
