He skated at the Wollman Rink in Central Park every other Tuesday afternoon, and sometimes brought his grandchildren in the evenings or Saturdays.
He, Ellissa Wyman, and Alan Markum were killed by a sniper as they were skating.
Dr. Matt Brolin tried to help him because he wasn’t instantly killed, but the shot was fatal.
His daughter was in Philadelphia on business, so Eve notified her of his death via ’link.^[2]
He was divorced years ago, and had a civil relationship with his ex-wife. He was tight with his daughter, enough that they’d all get together for dinner at the ex-wife’s for birthdays and holidays - no drama.^[2] His wife was remarried.^[3]
He’d been skating for years, but nothing fancy, just to keep in shape and reduce stress.^[2]
His practice was right off Fifth Avenue at East 64th Street and had been at that location for twenty-two years. He did a stint at the local free clinic twice a month.^[4]
He had an office manager, Marta Beck, a receptionist, a billing clerk, a physician assistant, a midwife, two nurses, and a pair of part-time rotating nurse’s assistants. He added the PA eight years ago.^[4]
He had a good rep, professionally, and nothing popped out personally.^[4]
The succession plan was for Dr. Andy Spicker to take over the practice, along with his midwife, Faith O’Riley. Spicker’s parents were his oldest friends and Spicker just completed his residency.^[4]
Spicker was his godson.^[3]
