Interesting Facts[]
- One of the Yale students who was drugged and violently raped by Frederick Betz, Marshall Easterday, Ethan MacNamee, Edward Mira, William Stevenson, and Jonas Bartell Wymann.
- She was one of the five women in the painting Laurel Esty saw in Charity Downing’s apartment, along with Elsi Lee Adderman, Downing, Carlee MacKensie, Lydia Su, and her.
- She attended Yale from September, 2035 to May, 2043, including postgraduate work. She graduated with honors from Yale Law School.
- Left her high-paying corporate law firm, where she was on track to make partner, about six years prior to start her own small firm that specialized in representing rape victims and battered spouses, and she served as the legal counsel for three rape crisis centers.
- Owned the property she, Downing, MacKensie, and Su were using to torture the men from The Brotherhood - it was originally deeded to her by her great-grandmother after her death, with the new ownership buried behind two interlocking shells. Roarke found the property through the utility bills, which were being paid from a brokerage account in Iowa (where Haversham lived) under the name Beth Pawter (Haversham’s maiden name was Pawter).[2]
- She met Su at the support group CeCe Anson led, and they realized their nightmares were too similar to be coincidental.[3]
- She did pro bono work at Inner Peace, where she met MacKensie.[3]
- Downing had a meltdown during a session in another support group, and CeCe contacted her to help Downing with her legal issues. When Downing described her recurring nightmare, she recognized it.[3]
- She then searched records and found Adderman, who was the latest victim. She had Downing paint the nightmares, and when she recognized Mira, she researched Yale and found the others.[3]
- Downing didn’t attend Yale, but she was dating a man from Yale and sometimes attended parties or events with him; on one of her visits, she found herself wandering the campus before dawn with no memory of what had happened.[3]
- They began meeting about a year ago in her property, as support for each other. When she researched criminal law, she realized that the statute of limitations had passed for all but Adderman and Downing. The plan was for those two to report the crimes and the rest would add their weight, but it was too much pressure on Adderman and she self-terminated.[3]
- After Adderman’s death they began to look for proof, having first MacKensie and then Downing sleep with Mira. When they couldn’t find proof, Blake posed as a realtor to lure Mira to the house, where they abducted him in Su’s van.[3]
- Eve pointed out that the statute of limitations hadn’t run out since it was a conspiracy to drug and incapacitate, to kidnap, to hold individuals against their will, to rape and cause bodily, mental, and emotional harm.[3]
