Greenpeace Park – (Mentioned in several In Death books) The traffic, on the street and overhead, could be heard but, inside the park, there was a small slice of countrified with vegetable patch spread out in tidy rows behind a screen of pest and vandals fence. Leafy stuff and viney stuff and things that sprawled over small, neat hills grew there.

At the end of the patch, behind the odd little vertical triangles where vines grew, was a statue of a man and a woman. Each wore a hat and the man carried some sort of hoe or rake, while the woman carried a basket loaded with what was meant to be the fruits of their labor; a harvest.

Harvest was the name of the statue but everyone called it Ma and Pa Farmer; or Ma and Pa. The body of Annalisa Sommers lay at the base of the statue in Visions in Death.[1]

Eve noted, speaking from Annalisa’s point of view, “Quick breeze through and you’re back on the street and almost at your own doorstep,”[2] and her ID indicated that she lived at 15 W 31st Street, so the park must be in the immediate vicinity. The closest park in real-world Manhattan was Greeley Square at 32nd St between Broadway and Sixth, but that wasn’t a large, green park. The next closest was Madison Square Park, but it was more than five blocks away, at 26th St. and Fifth Ave.

This park was also where C. J. Morse took Nadine Furst after he kidnapped her in Glory in Death. Morse said nobody went there after dark unless they were smart enough to bypass the electronic field that discouraged loiterers and chemi-heads.[3] There were dozens of paths that wound through the glade and the gardens; a fountain, its waters silent in the dark; a small children's playground, with glide swings, twisty slides, and a foamy jungle gym that prevented little climbers from bruising shins and elbows.[4]

In Seduction in Death, Stefanie Finch was supposed to meet “Wordsworth” at Greenpeace Park for a picnic[5], but Eve met him instead, arresting him.[6]

The Free-Ager center run by Leah Rames and Genoa where Meredith Newman’s body was left in Survivor in Death grew a lot of the stuff the restaurant used there.[7]

(Eve could make it from Roarke’s mansion to Greenpeace Park in six minutes.)[8]
