  • Hetta said gluttony killed her husband as she told him not to eat the pie.[7]
  • She baked a custard pie with a synthetic cyanide compound, with extra sugar, and told her husband not to touch it. He ate it anyway and it killed him.[8]

  • Hennessy, one of the neighbors, told Dallas there had been trouble down in the Finestein apartment; that Joseph was found dead in the kitchen.[9]
  • She said she had been out playing her weekly game of mah-jongg and found Joe dead in the kitchen.[10]
  • Up until a few years ago, they ran a bakery. Hetta still likes to bake and said she has quite a hand with pies and cakes.[11]
  • "The woman [who] could bake a poisoned pie, but couldn't control her own television ..."[12]
  • Joe was Hetta's second husband; they would have been married fifty years come April.[13] She said he had become difficult to live with and, as an example, said he had eaten half of her Tower of Pleasure Cake she'd baked for the International Betty Crocker cook-off. Then he told her it was dry.[14]
