Injuries in Death

What crime drama would be complete without a few injuries in the line of duty? Eve and the other characters of the series have certainly had their share of injuries throughout.

Thanks to InDeath.net member “Cathymw,” and some other members of the forum, we have an injury list, starting with Eve:

Eve's Injuries

Naked in Death

• She got a bruise on the face and wrenched her arm and shoulder from the bomber in Francois' store
• She was shot in the arm, punched in the ribs, hit her head on the floor, strangled and pummeled by Derrick Rockman at the end of the book

Glory in Death

• The woman who attempted to break into the modified rancher donkey-style kicked her in the left shoulder
• C. J. Morse cut her on the collarbone, just above the wrist, punched her in the eye, and scratched her arm at the end of the book in the final fight

Immortal in Death

• She injured her knees (minor) in a flying tackle of a romantic interest of Cockroach
• Jake Casto fought her in the privacy room of the Down and Dirty Club the night before her wedding; her face was bruised (thus starting an anniversary tradition), she hurt her ribs, and was drugged

Rapture in Death

• Eve took a bat to the shoulder while trying to break up a fight between two taxi drivers; her shoulder was bruised
• She was injured by the would-be thief in the bank bombing: her hip was bruised; her arms and shoulders bruised; her knee was badly wrenched and inflamed
• She fought with Reeanna Ott in the end; she was scratched and bruised

Ceremony in Death

• Selina Cross scratched her face
• Eve fought naked with Alban while Roarke was fighting him

Vengeance in Death

• Injured when her car blew up
• Then A.A. (Liam Calhoun) cut her with a laser scalpel and shot her with her own stunner
• Audrey weakly attacked her as well

Holiday in Death

• Okay in this one; ankles/knee twinge

Midnight in Death, Silent Night Anthology

• No injuries in this one though her jacket caught fire at the end

Conspiracy in Death

• Took a pool cue to her cheekbone; only bruised
• Fought with a robot which subsequently exploded and messed up her new cashmere jacket
• She also fought with Dr. Michael Waverly at the end

Loyalty in Death

• Dallas skidded on her knees, bloodying her leg, during the explosion at the old glass factory
• She and Roarke fought B.D. and Clarissa Branson. Roarke ws more injured than she was

Witness in Death

• When Maylou Jorgensen panicked and tried to run, Eve tackled her and received a knee to her groin, spit in her eye, and was raked by Maylou’s inch-long nails down her neck
• After the shooting in which Troy Trueheart was injured, Eve had some facial lacerations caused by stray shots and flying glass
• Carly Landsdowne slapped Eve

Judgment in Death

• Max Ricker bruised her arm
• The thugs on the street caused her to injure her leg and ruin her pants
• Ricker also hit Eve in the face

Betrayal in Death

• Ended up with bloody, swollen nose due to her tackle of Yost

Interlude in Death

• Eve and Roarke almost got blown up
• Eve, Roarke, and Peabody almost got blown up

Seduction in Death

• Injured in the Internet café, bruise on face and bit her tongue
• Eve saw a drug deal going bad and two men pulled blades on each other. After a brief tussle, she wound up with a long, shallow cut from just under her right ear to just above the jugular
• Not injured but ill with a slight fever and scratchy throat
• Lucius shot her in the left arm with a stunner, numbing it for a few hours

Reunion in Death

• Badly injured by the sidewalk sleeper and the kid on the airboard who Julianna Dunne hired
  • Concussion, jammed shoulder, bruised ribs, gashed hip, assorted contusions and lacerations
• Injured after “catfight” with Dunne

• Eve was backhanded by Kevin Halloway

• Eve wrestled and fought with Roarke… but other than that, okay

• Punched by the dude on the subway who was trying to stop Willy the Wanker

• After John Blue was restrained, she winced and said she 'pulled a little something on that kick'

• She fought with Jilly Isenberry, Roger Kirkendall, and Isaac Clinton at the end, helped by Roarke. Eve dislocated her shoulder

Origin in Death

• A woman from Minnesota swung a handbag the size of her home state into Eve's face. She had a bruise from the tip of her nose right up her cheekbone to the corner of her eye
• She and Roarke injured after mass fight in Icove Center

Memory in Death

• Eve tackled a purse snatcher and his elbow caught her jaw, causing her to bite her tongue

• Attacked by Maeve Buchanan and the ghost of Bobbie Bray

Born in Death

• Winfield Chase pulled a stunner and Eve disarmed him. He struck out at her but his fist only glanced off her shoulder but then rammed her into the wall. Before he can choke her, she kneed him in the crotch, taking him out of the fight

Creation in Death

• Billy, about the size of a vending machine and a little ‘slow,’ picked Dallas of her feet and shook her like a rag doll. When she kicked him in the balls, he threw her; she landed hard on her butt, skidded, then hit her head against a vending machine hard enough to have a few stars dancing in front of her eyes
• Eve was bitten on the leg by a street thief she apprehended; he broke her skin
• While she was not injured, she was tranq’d by The Groom

Eternity in Death

• During her fight with Dorian Vadim, Eve was hurled into the wall, hurt her arm/shoulder, bloodied her mouth, hit her head on ‘various hard objects,’ and had slight wounds on her neck where Vadim tried to bite her

Strangers in Death

• Tiko Johnson tipped Dallas off to a store that was operating as a front to pass off stolen wallets, bags, et cetera. When she badged the bagman (Clipper) in the store, he elbowed Dallas in the face (cheekbone) before she arrested him for street theft and identity fraud
• After Dallas interviewed Ava Anders, Ava charged at Dallas, swiping her nails under Dallas’s jaw, breaking the skin

Salvation in Death

• When Dallas broke up two women in a fight over a bag, she grabbed one woman by the hair and the other in a headlock. The woman she grabbed by the hair bit Dallas on the shoulder, leaving marks and bruising
• When Dallas set up a sting for Penny Soto, Penny attacked her, hacking out with a knife, catching Dallas on the arm; she took a kick to the hip, a scratch of Penny's fingernails across her jaw; and another blow here or there. Dallas had a bloody nose and arm after she knocked Penny out

Promises in Death

• When she was busy checking the obvious sedan that was following her (plate number: 863ZBE), her vehicle was struck by a van. The safety gel deployed when her vehicle crashed but she was spun, jolted, and received a bump and cut on her forehead – she also had some soreness

Kindred in Death

• At the memorial service, when the crowd panicked and rushed for the exits, Eve was shoved from behind and she pitched violently forward, slammed to her hands and knees. She took a blow to the eye and nose when she went down, and another to the small of her back as she fought her way back to her feet. She wound up with a black eye, bloody nose, bruises on her torso, and other soreness

Fantasy in Death

• When Eve and Roarke found themselves in the holo-room, they fought multiple opponents. A sword cut Eve on her hip - not further acknowledged - and, later, had aches, burns, and a wound on her arm

Indulgence in Death

• Knife wound on forearm by a guy in Cop Central with a sharpened plastic knife from the Eatery
• Wounded by Winston Dudley IV with his antique Italian fencing foil when she pivoted; he stabbed Sylvester Moriarity III instead, but her arm was grazed and her knuckles were bruised when she punched Dudley.

Possession in Death

• Gizi Szabo dug her nails into Eve's hand, sharing blood with her, and demanded Eve take her in. Not knowing what was happening, Eve agreed. She was pulled into a vision of Beata and went into a trance.

Treachery in Death

• Eve goaded Detective William Garnet into having his forearm smack sharply into hers in Renee Oberman's office, allowing Eve to issue him a 30-day rip.
• Garnet laid in wait for Eve at her house. He gave her a taunting little shove, both hands to her shoulders, then backhanded her. She slammed her fists into his face, knocking him back a step, then his fist glanced off her shoulder to sing down her arm. She hit him again, with a hard, short-armed punch to the face. Since she heard the roar of an engine and knew Roarke was barreling down the drive, she thought it was time to end it. She caught Garnet reaching for his weapon and kicked out, kicked hard so her boot connected with his forearm, causing the weapon he'd drawn to fly out of his hand and clatter against the iron gates. She had scraped knuckles in addition to the bloody lip and wounded shoulder.
• Eve took a hit from Detective Marcell in the garage, but was prepared and wearing a protective vest, so it was heat and “the faint but annoying sting.”
• Eve goaded Oberman into a fight in her office, with the damage being a mid-body blow that burned her belly, a kick to her shoulder that zipped pain down her arm, a kick to her knee that shot her feet out from under her, a blow to her face that had stars exploding in front of her eyes, a double kick tro her hip, and a severe hair-pulling, including nails gouging her scalp.

New York to Dallas

• Eve was injured when she crashed into Stella's van: bleeding lip and abrasions on her cheek from smacking her face on the air bag.
• During her fight with Isaac McQueen in her hotel room, his knife bit a shallow stream down her arm and then the blade grazed her hip as she was taking him down. He hit her like a battering ram, taking her down, with her arm twisted under her. “Something popped, but she registered the sound, the screaming pain as a snap.” She went into a fugue state and ended up with her face bruised and bloody. Her arm was dislocated, not broken.

Chaos in Death

• Eve was attacked by Dr. Chaos, aka Ken Dickerson, in the interview box at Cop Central. She got a stream off but he was in his animal form “and used the force of his body ramming hers to go down, kick up, and send him flying over her and into the wall. He careened off, bloodied, and nimble as a spider.” Before he could attack again, Roarke rushed in and rammed his fists into the twisted face. “Right, left, right again. Blood streaming, body spasming, Chaos went down.” Eve's shoulder was reinjured, not having completely healed from McQueen's attack on her.

Delusion in Death

• In trying to prevent more deaths at Café West, Eve took a jabbing elbow to her ribs.

Calculated in Death

• As Eve and Peabody are walking back to the car after interviewing Brandy Dyson, Eve hears a faint whine and feels a pressure thump into her back, between her shoulder blades. She realizes she’s been stunned, but the magic coat blocked it, so she knocks Peabody down, comes up with her weapon, and sees the six-four, two-fifty while male (Clinton Roscoe Frye) with a ski cap, sunshades, scarf, and coat execute a quick pivot and run. She chases the killer, but loses him when he grabs a toddler (Chuckie) off the ground, coldcocks the father, and throws the shrieking kid through the air. Eve catches the kid, but the force knocks her flat and hard, with the kid’s skull ramming her chest. Peabody lifts the boy from Eve, trying to comfort him, and calls for medicals. The boy is fine but the mother grabs Eve to hug her thanks, causing Eve even more pain.
• At the premiere of The Icove Agenda, Frye grabbed Candida Mobsley, spinning her around and hurling her at Eve; Mobsley's fist caught Eve in the eye.

Concealed in Death

• Lemont Frester's hard-eyed security, Ingrid, clamped a hand on Eve's arm when she was trying to prevent Eve from interviewing Frester. Eve smiled, toothily. “Now you've done it. You just added assaulting an officer to the menu of choices.” With her free hand, Eve swung the woman toward the wall, took an elbow in the gut with enough force behind it to make her grunt. And to make her think just how much she'd enjoy knowing Big Rack Security Bitch did some time in holding. “You're now officially under arrest.” Eve put some force behind her own next move, and shoved the woman's face to the wall, then grabbed the wrist of the hand that reached down for the stunner clipped to her waist. “And it gets better and better,” she said as she yanked Ingrid's arms behind her back. The woman had some skill, or so Eve thought when she managed to shift her weight, get one arm free, and use it for a back fist Eve couldn't quite avoid. It glanced off her cheekbone and sent out some angry sparks of pain. She kicked the woman's feet out from under her, planted a knee in the small of her back, and restrained her arms behind her.

Festive in Death

• Natasha Quiqley slapped Eve, allowing her to add assaulting an officer and cuff both of her hands in the hospital room.

Devoted in Death

• Mad Fergus was being chased by two uniforms in Cop Central after he got loose. Eve gave chase, hitting him with a right cross, which barely slowed him down. One of his punches glanced off her shoulder, so she went with it, spinning around and landing a side kick to his gut, then stomping hard on his instep, followed by a knee to the balls and another right cross. It didn't take him down, but gave the two uniforms time to catch up and a third one restrained him.

Wonderment in Death

• Dorbert Mouse kicks Eve in the shin when she comes into Dr. Bright's home/office.

Apprentice in Death

• A street thief at the Times Square sniper attack scene took a swing at Eve, glancing his fist off the side of her jaw, after she picked him up by the collar of his oversized overcoat, shaking him hard enough to have wallets and bags raining onto the ground. She told him, “You motherfucker. Show some respect. Get your ass out of here, or I'll personally see you rotting in a cage for the next twenty. Since he hit her rather than leave, she kneed him hard enough in the balls to flatten him, and yelled for an officer to “Cuff him, haul his ass in.”
• Reginald Mackie grazes Eve's arm with hand lasers - she had traded magic coat with Peabody and then taken the pink one off once she was inside Philippe Constant and Jan Maguire's home.
• In the final confrontation between Eve and Willow Mackie, the injuries included:
  • laser blast against her shoulder and hip
  • shoulder hit to her sternum
  • kick to her head that her helmet vibrating
  • kick that glanced off her ribs
  • hard knee to the crotch
  • elbow shot that had her eye burning
  • slice along her hand from a combat knife meant for her throat
  • black eye from one of the aforementioned attacks

Echoes in Death

• Kyle Knightly backhanded Eve when she was serving him with the search warrant for his home. “She could have dodged it - he telegraphed the move - but she wanted the hit, wanted the taste of blood in her mouth.” Instead, “she shot her foot out, swept it, and took his legs out from under him. He fell hard, as she'd meant him to do.”

Secrets in Death

• Head butt to Eve's jaw from a street thief when Eve grabbed her coat collar, tangling her in her own coat.

Dark in Death

• A giggling, bearded dwarf flew out of the elevator into Peabody, knocking her back and down. Eve managed to pivot, caught him on her shoulder, and used the momentum to flip him over. She pivoted again but the dwarf kicked at her, glancing off her jaw, then she had another kick or punch banging into her ribs before she dropped bodily on the now-cackling man and restrained him.

Leverage in Death

• Eve tried for a headshot to Oliver Silverman, but took a hard left jab in the face. He followed through, knife and fist, taking them both down in a bone-rattling heap. She lost her grip on her weapon, rolled to clamp both hands around the wrist of his knife hand before he stabbed the toothed blade into her face. Breath whistling, she got a knee into his gut, and used momentum to roll him off. As he sliced down again, she got a kick into his shoulder, sprang up, leaped over his sweeping leg as he did the same. She danced back, away from the kid, and swung into a back kick, vaulting over a raised bed. As she landed she grabbed a pot with something spearing up hopefully through the dirt and flung it at him. He danced away but it caught his cheek, leaving a raw scrape. She pushed off from another raised bed, leading with her feet, and landing on him like a human battering ram, center mass. He aimed a fist at her throat; she dodged and took it on the shoulder. After that she lost track of the injuries until he pulled out the detonator and pressed the button. When nothing happened, she rammed into him like a bull, grappled with him, and flipped herself back. She balanced on one leg, shot up with the lifted one to slam two rapid kicks into his jaw. As he stumbled back, she leaped up with the other, plowed it into his midsection. More punches and kicks to him, then she had him dangling off the roof, but held on: “You don't get off this easy.” Roarke reached down and added his weight, his muscle, to keep Silverman from falling and taking them with him. Roarke ended it with a vicious short-armed punch.

Connections in Death

• When apprehending a thief picking pockets at Barry ‘Fist’ Aimes's crime scene, he backfisted her, which caught her jaw before she swept his legs from under him and pinned him to the ground with her knee.
• During the takedown of the Bangers HQ, she and Donita ‘Tank’ Haver fought, with Eve winning but getting a bloody nose and various hits.

Golden in Death

• Eve allowed Stephen Whitt's elbow to brush her hip when he jabbed it at her so she could add assaulting an officer to the rest of his charges.

Shadows in Death

• Lorcan Cobbe jabbed his elbow in Eve's jaw.

Forgotten in Death

• Alexei Tovinski flung Eve across the room, injuring her shoulder when it hit the wall.

Desperation in Death

• Jewell Gregg “shoved Eve with murder in her eye for the neighbor.” Eve wasn't hurt, but slapped restraints on her for assaulting an officer.
• Eve allowed Iris Beaty to get a couple of knuckles on her chin get through when she took her down in her apartment at The Pleasure Academy, leaving a bruise on her jaw.

Encore in Death

• When Eve was taking down Debra Bernstein, Debra swung one of her bags at Eve, and it thudded against her shoulder. Then she elbowed Eve in the gut before trying to wiggle around to rake pink-tinted nails down her face.

Payback in Death

• Detective Joe Lansing came at Eve in the parking garage at Central. She let him take the first shot, which was a solid backhand to the face. She tasted blood and blocked the next blow, then used her fist. They fought, with him landing a few hits. His fist connected with her left breast, and the pain radiated straight through her. She spun into a back kick that knocked him back, followed with a cross jab that made her knuckles sting, then just swept his legs out from under him and put him on his ass. She ended up with a split lip and a bruised and swollen jaw, as well as bruised knuckles. Lansing's injuries included a dislocated jaw and broken nose.

Passions in Death

• A jonesing junkie being brought into Cop Central by two rookie uniforms launched himself at Eve when she stepped out of the elevator, injuring her hip before she rolled clear and tripped him as he was scrambling to get up.

Roarke's Injuries

Naked in Death

• When Roarke broke into Eve's apartment for the second time, she told him to leave, he grabbed her, and she punched him; she bloodied his mouth

Glory in Death

• Roarke got scratches and bruises from Morse

Immortal in Death

• After Roarke tranq'd Eve without her consent, she woke up the next morning and punched him in the stomach

Conspiracy in Death

• After his fight with the droid he had a bruise on his cheek and a jagged gash in his shoulder

Loyalty in Death

• Eve and Roarke fought the Bransons. Roarke was more injured than she was

Judgment in Death

• Webster and Roarke fight each other and manage to damage each other

• Eve and Roarke almost got blown up

• When he woke Eve from a nightmare she clawed his face and beat on him: he had livid scratches on his chest and shoulders and bite marks. “Jesus, I really went at you. That's bad enough, but scratching and biting like a girl. It's mortifying.” “You got a couple of punches in, if it makes you feel better.” “I'm a crappy person, because it does a little.” “Rang my bell once.”

• Mavis got a bit beaten up by Pandora - blackening bruise under the eye, raw, bleeding scrapes on the cheek

• Peabody got a concussion from the bank bombing (hair also catches fire)

• When Peabody, working undercover, met with Brent Holloway at the Nova Club, she punched him when he “stuck his hand up me under the table... he stuck his fingers in me”
• Peabody has a scare when she is drugged and intended to be made a victim of Simon

• Mira had a scare when she was abducted and caged

Conspiracy in Death

• Baxter was punched by Roarke
• Louise was attacked and badly beaten by Jan, resulting in a coma and fractured skull

Witness in Death

• Troy Trueheart was shot and wounded – injuries included gash along the thigh and spinal injuries from which he fully recovered

Judgment in Death

• Webster and Roarke fought, exchanging blows
• Webster received a knife wound that ran from his shoulder across his chest
  • Massive blood loss, extreme internal damage; knife nicked his heart and lungs

• Mick Connelly was stabbed in the stomach and died

• Eve, Roarke, and Peabody almost got blown up (Peabody concussed)

Purity in Death

• Trueheart had bruises from a bat, forcing him to take off his shirt
• Feeney had bruises under chin from a stunner and a gash along his cheek
• McNab was temporarily paralyzed along his right side after being stunned
• Peabody was stabbed with scissors

• Trueheart had a bit of a scare when he was drugged and kidnapped

• Peabody bloodied her nose when she tackled and helped restrain Blair Bissel

• Peabody was beaten badly:
  • Three broken ribs, collapsed lung, shoulder 'torn up,' fractured hip, shattered cheekbone, dislocated jaw, head trauma; internal damage with bruised kidney and damaged spleen

Survivor in Death

• Baxter was stunned and concussed

Eternity in Death

• Peabody had a darkening bruise on her cheekbone and a nasty scrape along her jaw after the fight in Bloodbath

Kindred in Death

• At the memorial service, when the crowd panicked and rushed for the exits, Peabody took a knock and had a bruise on her cheek

Festive in Death

• John Jake Copley hit Officer Shelby with his shoulder when she restrained him, leaving a bruise on her jaw: “He called me a useless ¢unt, a moronis bitch, and at one point laid hands on my person. I was forced to restrain him. He caught me with his shoulder when I restrained him.”

Apprentice in Death

• Officer Shelby was sucker-punched in the eye by a jonesing chemi-head on her first day in homicide, but took him down fast and told Eve, “My kid sister hits harder.”
• Peabody tripped on the stairs after Willow Mackie set off a grenade and she couldn't see anything. She hit the tread while falling, her helmet rapped up and bruised her chin. She bit her tongue and saw stars.

Dark in Death

• A giggling, bearded dwarf flew out of the elevator into Peabody, knocking her back and down.

Connections in Death

• During the takedown of the Bangers HQ, Peabody fell down the stairs with the naked having-sex guy - he went crazy and she tackled him, then he pulled her down the stairs: she was hobbling, with blood seeping from several cuts and scrapes on her sheet-pale face.

Desperation in Death

• Trueheart's mouth was bleeding after some action during the Pleasure Academy take down. Peabody sustained a black eye from an elbow jab and Jenkinson took a double stream to the chest -- “even with the vest, it knocked him on his ass. He is pissed. But we kicked their ass a lot harder.”

Payback in Death

• After Eve took Detective Joe Lansing down, he pulled a clutch piece out of an ankle holster. The stream went wide, missed her, and hit Baxter. He was wearing a Thin Shield lining in his jacket, so he wasn't killed, just bruised.
