Jamboree – A colorful little PPC manufactured by Kidware that Henry MacDermit used to assist the police in rescuing his twin, Gala MacDermit, and himself in Taken in Death. Henry recorded a disc with clues about where they were being taken, leaving the disc in the otherwise immaculate family car.[1] With the help of the garage owner, Bing Francis, who had a Jamboree player in his apartment for when he played spy with his grandson, Eve was able to play back the recording.[2]
Peabody described the toy as “a kid’s PPC, sort of. Plays games, does some limited communication, like an old-style walkie-talkie sort of. Also limited Internet access, depending on parental guidelines.” Henry got his for his seventh birthday and had it in a secret pocket that his nanny, Darcia Jordan, had sewed in his pajamas when Maj Borgstrom kidnapped the twins.[2]
Feeney called it a nice little unit, some good features on it and told Eve a couple of his grandkids had them - he told them he could have made them up something, but they had to have the store-bought. They had limited range - three or four blocks, tops[3], but he was able to boost the range on Gala’s unit to nearly a mile, which was still in her room, so they could communicate with the children.[4]
Trueheart’s girlfriend Cassie’s little brother had one and he said, “fun stuff.”[3]
