Interesting Facts

• The remains of her and her fetus were found on the same day that Alva Quirk’s body was found, also on the Hudson Yards site, but in the Hudson Yards Village are, specifically the Sky Garden section. They were found by Jim Mackie while they were tearing down the restaurant that used to be there.
• The fetus was 32 weeks, and therefore viable.
• She was of Middle Eastern heritage on both sides, probably Lebanese. The fetus was Middle Eastern on the maternal side and European paternally, primarily Britain, with some Germany and northern Europe - Scandinavia, likely Sweden.
• She and Bolton Kincade Singer met at the Irving Allen Conservatory in Savannah, Georgia. She was a brilliant pianist and nearly as brilliant with the violin. She came to study, transferred from London, They met at nineteen. She’d grown up very strict, sheltered, with devoutly Muslim parents. She and Bolt were very much in love, and he was her first, so they went slow. After about a year, they moved off-campus, got an apartment together.
• When she got pregnant, they planned to have the baby and raise it together, but she said she needed to go back to London first and speak with her parents to get their blessing. They exchanged vows, not legal, just a ceremony, and that was the last time he saw her. She left him a note that she needed to do the right thing, in April. In June she sent him a letter, saying she’d disgraced her family and was going to give the baby up for adoption.
• Mrs. Bolton Singer couldn’t bear the thought of a mixed-race child from a woman of a different class than her. She visited her parents in London, telling them everything. They convinced Johara to go to her aunt and to put the baby up for adoption, but she changed her mind and came back to New York. When she couldn’t be bribed with $100,000 Bolton Singer shot her and J.B. pushed her into the cellar and bricked over it.
