Interesting Facts[]
- Had been married six years.[2]
- He kept a small, private account. Two weeks before Galla’s death, he transferred 500,000 euros to a numbered, sheltered account in Andorra, with another 515,000 euros the night she was killed, at 2300 (she was killed at 2218).[3]
- He fired the housekeeper, Elena Rinaldi, and the nanny, Sofia Grinaldi, the day after Galla was murdered, replacing them with droids.[3]
- He didn’t want Galla to work, although that wasn’t what he said before they married. She was smart and knowledgeable, and involved but he complained, so she cut back. He wanted her available to him for society and image, and he was abusive, trying to isolate her.[3]
- He put the painting Galla bought from Marlon Stowe up for sale the day after Galla was murdered,[3] and Roarke purchased it, planning to give it to Galla’s brother, Stefano, since it meant something to Galla.[4]
- When he was in Rome for meetings, Stefano took him for drinks, and he asked where was the Mafia when we needed it? They had a competitor who was undercutting their prices, and they joked about needing the men in the black limousine to take them out, for good. Stefano joked back and told him they only contact Salvadore Bellacore, who was old mafioso and knew the cutthroats and where to find them, as he was one himself. He was a broker in his retirement.[5]
- He did contact Bellacore, which was how he found and hired Lorcan Cobbe to kill Galla. He transferred ten thousand euros to Bellacore’s farm March 24, 2061. His farm was oranges, olives, and lemons, although really it was just a front for the brokerage.[5]
- Feeling petty, Eve had Peabody get a couple of female officers to execute the arrest warrant for conspiracy to commit murder and murder in the first on him: “Fucker used a woman to advance his career, social status, and line his pockets. Then he had her gutted. Female cops? He’ll consider it more of an insult.”[5]
- He listed Galla’s Tuscany farmhouse for sale, giving the custodians three weeks to vacate. He also listed her Florence flat, evicting her young cousin, an art student, currently living there. All sales were blocked with his arrest.[5]
- He hired Oscar Gill Investigations to shadow his wife before hiring Cobbe to murder her. He paid $8,325, out of his expense account, and received a report from Oscar Gill on his wife’s activities, including photographs of Galla with Stowe, sharing a kiss and an embrace.[6]
