Kick It – The brand that manufactured the extremely low-end Zoomers model that Francis Bryce wore in Random in Death. Jamie Lingstrom said that Kick Its were “subzero. Maybe you buy them if you have to spend a day walking in mud, because they’re gonna fall apart in a couple weeks anyway.” Quilla added, “If I got caught dead in a pair, I’d die a second time of humiliation.”[1]

The clerk Eve talked to at L&W told her teens who bought them came in alone rather than in groups because “they don’t want buds to know they’re buying Kick Its or Sprints or Joe’s.” Bryce bought a pair in size 6 1/2 in black, which the clerk remembered because he was dressed in “dopey clothes,” which she clarified as “like his mom made him dress for school or church or to visit snooty Aunt Martha.” She also remembered that he had excellent shoes, “brown leather dress loafers, with the tassel. I mean, who puts a teenage kid in those? Lame. But real quality. Alan Stubens. You could buy a hundred Kick Its for one pair of Stuben loafers.”[2]
