- He worked for Patrick Roarke in Dublin, when he and Roarke were boys – he was a few years older than Roarke and had no talent for thievery and considerable for viciousness, so he did enforcement and intimidation, helping with the protection racket.
- His primary interests were gutting, throat slitting, and disemboweling.
