Waterstone, Mrs.
Appeared in Dark in Death (late February, 2061)[1]
Personal Information[]
- Description: A tiny black woman with a snow-white bubble of hair and a cheerful smile
- Address: Apartment 103 in a three-story, eighteen unit building in Brooklyn
- Occupation: Retired teacher
Interesting Facts[]
- She had a sweet tooth.
- She was the person who let Gracie Lipwitch know about Ann Elizabeth Smith’s empty apartment because she knew she was looking for a place for her and her daughter - it was a one bedroom rather than a two bedroom but close to Gracie’s work with reasonable rent.
- Smith just walked out - left the last month’s rent and the keys and took her stuff, but nobody knew she’d moved out for a couple of weeks.
- Gracie sent a cupcake down for her.
- ”If anybody knows anything about anybody, it’s [her].”
- Had just finished her chores when Eve and Peabody arrived to question her about Smith. Her apartment all but glimmered.
- Said Smith was a little mouse who wouldn’t say boo to a goose, whatever the hell that meant. She said she was sneaky, unfriendly, and unhappy and never once brought anybody home or had a visitor. She summed it up as furtive.
- Was a teacher for 55 years.
- She recalled Smith coming in one day carrying a package and mad crying (as opposed to heartbroken crying). She asked her what was wrong, like you do, and Smith yelled at her - told her to mind her own damn business, and she could hear her slamming around, stomping around for a good hour afterward.
- Warned Eve and Peabody to be careful of Smith: “there’s a bad temper inside the little mouse. She carried a cloud with her. And sooner or later, clouds break into a storm.”
