O’Brian, Patrick
Appeared in Promises in Death (Spring 2060)
Personal Information[]
- Description: He was beefy, long-jawed, and sharp-eyed.[1]
- Relationships: Unnamed wife and daughter
- Occupation: Detective first grade, NYPSD, Eighteenth squad (House 42)[2]
Personality[]
- He had the sad eyes and fatherly demeanor going for him.[3]
History[]
- He had been on the job for twenty-three years and made Detective first grade five years ago; the last twelve years in his current house and squad - he had commendations and two valorous conduct citations. He worked Major Case before transferring to his current unit[4] and was the squad’s team leader.[5]
- He’d been married (second marriage) for fifteen years with no children from his first, and two children from his current marriage.[4]
- He said he transferred because working Major Case was a good part of the reason his first marriage failed. He remarried, had a little girl, and didn’t want to risk it again.[6]
Interesting Facts[]
- He said that if Amaryllis Coltraine was taken down in her stairwell, it had to have been done by someone she knew and that if she took both her weapons, she was on the job.[1]
- He said Coltraine had dinner with him and his wife a few times; he said his wife liked her a lot.[6]
- His oldest daughter was fourteen years old[6] and he seemed to have a sort of father-daughter type of relationship with Coltraine.[7]
- He was the father figure in the squad (which included Josh Newman, Dak Clifton, and Cleo Grady); he was the oldest and most experienced (senior man in the squad). The rest of the squad looked to him before they looked to Lieutenant Delong[8] and probably considered him the most trusted member of the squad.[7]
