Podark – The brand of vault Larinda Mars had in Secrets in Death - she had the model TXR-2000 in the duplex she owned as Angela Terra of Terra Consultants, but Roarke reminiscenced about cracking his first Podark in a lovely and graceful Tuscan villa when he was twenty, saying he could still smell the lemon blossoms. It took him 18 minutes and thirty-two seconds to crack the TXR-2000, a time that wowed McNab, who didn’t think it could be done in under twenty minutes. McNab said it had twenty-eight locking bolts, up to six passcodes and two fail-safes. Roarke added that he wouldn’t have been able to drill it because “she’s built to snap drill bits like dry twigs under a bootheel. If you’re crude enough to try explosives, she’ll laugh at you. You don’t force or bully a lady like this. You... convince her.” Roarke estimated that Mars’s vault, which wasn’t full, held sixty million dollars in cash, about triple that in baubles, and about a hundred twenty million more in other items, for a total of about 360-400 million. The building itself was worth around fifty to one hundred million, and Roarke didn’t try to estimate the non-vault contents.[1]
