Rollers – Presumably an Arena Ball team located in New York and mentioned in Dark in Death when Santiago was wearing the cowboy hat, saying he bet on the Knicks-Bulls game: if the Bulls win, Carmichael springs for lunch for a week. Since the Knicks won, he was wearing the cowboy hat for a week.
Eve told him, “You bet against the Knicks? You deserve the hat.” He said he grew up in Chicago, but Eve pointed out that the people of New York pay his freight, and that’s what counts. When he asked her, “Don’t you own the Celtics?” Eve schooled him: “Roarke owns the Celtics, and when they play the Knicks, they’re the enemy. We have standards in this division. Mets, Knicks, Giants, Rollers, Rangers. Get on board, Detective, or you may wear that hat permanently.” When he asked, “What about the Yankees, the Jets? Eve stares at him coldly, saying, “Don’t make me write you up.”[1]
