Screw U – In Dark in Death, Yola Bloomfield remembered seeing the killer with the orange dragon tattoo in one of these clubs: Hellfire, Screw U, Dive Down, or Styx. They each met the criteria of the murder scene in Dark Deeds: licensed for consensual sex, privacy booths, licensed for performance nudity - live, not holo, high dollar drinks, celebrity sightings, VIP sections. A bartender there, Brad Smithers, also remembered her coming in a few times and nursing virgin Moscow Mules.
The club opened at 5:30 for happy hour, but things didn’t start hopping until after 9 p.m. and didn’t really heat up until more like 11 most nights. The lights consisted of trios of screws with tips that appeared lethal should they fall and impale a customer. The walls carried a dull shine and numerous photos of naked or mostly naked people in creative poses of debauchery. Booth and tables crowded in together, some with privacy domes, some with filmy curtains. The dance floor spread, another dull sheen in front of a currently empty stage. Stairs corkscrewed up to the open second level, where there were lounging sofas, sleep chairs, and doors to what would be the privacy rooms. The coasters sported a drawing of a screw and a large U.[1]
The bouncer working the night Loxie Flash was murdered was Malted, and the club had close to 350 people in there, many drunk, stoned, or both. A very inexperienced bartender, Sasha Quint, mixed the pomtini that Ann Elizabeth Smith added cyanide to and Loxie drank. The club was located downtown and the waitstaff, which included Dorinda, wore short black skirts and tight red tops.[2]
