Sebastian
He should not be confused with Sebastian, the consultant at Paradise Salon that Sharon DeBlass used before Naked in Death.[1]
Appeared in Concealed in Death (December 2060) and Desperation in Death (late June, 2061) and mentioned in Payback in Death (August, 2061) and Passions in Death (Monday, August 15 - Friday, August 19, 2061)
Personal Information[]
- Description: With his artfully shaggy mop of brown hair, the quiet pale blue eyes, and neatly trimmed goatee, he might have been mistaken for a college professor[2]
- Age: Middle 40s
- Hair: Brown
- Eyes: Pale blue, calm and quiet like his voice
- Address: (June, 2061) Had a converted small apartment building, used the lobby as the family room, a jumble of furniture[3]
Description[]
- He had long, graceful-looking fingers - certainly adept at lifting wallets and flicking off wrist units.[2]
Interesting Facts[]
- He ran The Club, where 10-15 girls at a time lived, including Mavis, with him teaching them “the ropes - pocket picking, handoffs, drops, simple cons, mostly short cons. Crying Baby, Lost Girl, Duck and Goose, like that.” He used the money they made to feed, shelter, and clothe the girls.[4]
- Eve described his operation as training “disenfranchised kids to steal, to break the law, to treat it like a game on one level, an avocation on another. So they run the streets, bilking people, taking money and possessions those people worked for, money they earned to pay the rent, to pay bills, or to blow at craps at a casino - because it’s theirs.”[2]
- Eve thought he made a profit on his school of thieves and grifters, and while Mavis saw him as some sort of savior, Eve thought he was just another criminal circumventing the law for his own gain.[2]
- One of the children staying with Sebastian, Mouser, found Dorian Gregg after she escaped The Pleasure Academy[5] and brought her to his safe house.[6]
- He was able to talk Dorian into meeting with Eve at Mavis’s house to describe the academy and the people who worked there.[7]
- In Payback in Death, Eve asked Darlie Tanaka at Another Chance if she had worked with Sebastian and Darlie replied, “I believe I’m about to take the Fifth.”[8] Later in the book, Mavis asked Eve how Dorian Gregg was doing at school and Eve told her Dorian was doing well, and Mavis would have already checked with Sebastian, who would have found a way to check on Dorian.[9]
- In Passions in Death, Rochelle Pickering told Eve he checked in with Dorian and Tom (Mouser) at An Dídean from time to time and “they need that connection. He helped them - in his way.” Eve said his way was questionable and they let it go.[10]
