Sober-Up (Legal drug) – Used to counter the effects of alcohol on the system and mentioned throughout the In Death series. Literally sobers up whomever takes it.[1] Pills that, according to Mavis, will “clean the alcohol out of your bloodstream in ten minutes flat.” After Eve took it, she had a foul taste in the back of her throat but she was stone-cold sober.[2] In Concealed in Death, Eve asked Jon Clipperton, “Do you need or wish the assistance of Sober-Up before we begin the interview?” He declined, and she asked him, “Do you understand refusal of this aid, as offered, negates any future claim that this interview was conducted while you were impaired?” He told her he wasn’t impaired and she read him his rights, then proceeded with the interview.[3]
