Sudden Dark – A book in the Deann Dark series, written by Blaine DeLano and featuring ex-police detective Deann Dark, now a private investigator.[1] The release date was Fall, 2059, so presumably it was the fifth or sixth book in the series, since by February, 2061 there were eight books.[2]
The protagonist, Lucius Osgood, was a struggling artist with a beard.[3] The book opened with Osgood, a sexual predator who abducted women, killing a 24-year-old woman. He kept her alive for three days, raping and torturing her, until he eventually drowned her in a bubble bath, after which he applied makeup to her face, styled her hair, and dressed her in a business suit. He added pearl studs to her earlobes, kissed her tenderly, and called her Britina. Then, in the early hours of the morning, he transported the body to a location in Little Italy and dumped it on the sidewalk in front of a restaurant called Lucia's.[4]
