The Lounge – Located at Central, a waiting area for interviewees, family members, and potential witnesses who weren’t suspects in an investigation. It appeared and was mentioned in several books in the series. There were chairs, simple, sturdy tables, vending machines, and a couple of screens to keep those who waited occupied.[1][2] Eve described the chairs as designed to numb the ass after a five-minute sit-down.[3] It smelled like bad coffee and meat substitute.[2]
- In Portrait in Death, Nadine waited there with her crew and representative for Eve until Eve returned from having Nadine removed from Rachel Howard’s crime scene.[1]
- Eve interviewed Samantha Gannon there in Remember When.[4]
- In Survivor in Death, Eve had Jenny Dyson and Dave Rangle go to the lounge to wait for her because it was “a step up from the Eatery as far as the noise factor, and a step down on the food choices, which, given the Eatery, wasn’t saying much.”[5]
- In Innocent in Death, Eve interviewed Laina Sanchez there, while Baxter and Trueheart were getting information from one of their Funky Junkie weasels on the other side of the room.[6]
- In Eternity in Death, Peabody had a uniform take Tiara Kent’s mother and stepfather there to wait for Eve. After they left, Mira arrived to speak with her about vampirism.[3]
- In Indulgence in Death, Eve interviewed Patrice Delaughter there, and thought no one would mistake Pat for a cop.[2]
- In Treachery in Death, Eve described it to Darcia Angelo as a communal break room for the level.[7]
- In Devoted in Death, Baxter had Deputy Sheriff William T. Banner wait for Eve in the Lounge.[8]
- Eve talked to Officer Vince Patroni about Reginald Mackie in the lounge rather than an interview room in Apprentice in Death.[9]
- In Echoes in Death, Eve had Peabody set Detective Nikki Olsen up in the lounge so they could discuss the Patricks’s and Brinkmans’s assault cases since they were related to the Strazzas’s case. Detective Olsen sat at one of the little tables working on her PPC while something steamed in a go-cup at her elbow, and she told Eve that the coffee there was better than at her house.[10] Eve also talked to Carmine Rizzo, the owner of Loan Star Rentals, there.[11]
- Peabody advised against using the lounge to talk to Blaine DeLano in Dark in Death because Santiago and Trueheart are big fans of hers, so she suggested using an interview or conference room instead to limit access to her.[12]
- Anna Whitney waited in the lounge until the interviews with Lucius Iler and Oliver Silverman began in Leverage in Death; her plan was to observe the beginning of each to give her some peace and be able to report back to Rozilyn Pearson to give her and her family some peace, although she ended up observing the entire interviews.[13]
- When Crack and Rochelle came in to Central after Eve’s team pulled in the men who killed her brother, Lyle Pickering, in Connections in Death, she took them to the lounge to give them what she could, including that Marcus Jones, Jr. was not involved with Lyle’s death, just a host of other crimes, that the illegals in Lyle’s room were planted there, and that Lyle was working as a confidential informant, and that wasn’t related to his murder.[14]
- Eve had Peabody set Miguel Rodrigues up in the lounge in Golden in Death when he came in to talk about his Theresa A. Gold Academy years.[15]
- Eve and Peabody interviewed Elena Rinaldi in the lounge in Shadows in Death so she was more comfortable,[16] and then later Eve took Inspector Abernathy of Interpol to the lounge when he wanted to interrogate Roarke.[17]
- Eve had Alva Quirk’s brother and sister wait in the lounge with Peabody until she went in to update them on the investigation in Forgotten in Death[18], and they waited there again while they returned for her effects.[19] Later, Reo used it to speak with Elinor Bolton Singer's lawyer, Michael C. Breathed.[20]
- Eve and Peabody talked to Detective Norman from missing persons in the lounge in Abandoned in Death.[21]
- Eve had Nadine’s camera operator wait there while she briefed Nadine on the abductions in Desperation in Death.[22]
- Eve and Peabody interviewed Wanda Rogan in the lounge in Passions in Death.[23] Later in the story, they interviewed Becca DiNuzio and Angie Decker separately, using interview rooms rather than the lounge to “keep it official, maybe a little intimidating.”[24]
