The Sanctuary – Located on Ninth Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen, it was the former home (2041-2045) of the Higher Power Cleansing Center for Youths in Concealed in Death. The students ranged from ages 10-18, with some enrolled as day residents and some as full-time (live-in), and was run by a sister and brother pair named Philadelphia Jones and Nashville Jones. The children were enrolled by their guardians or by the court system, with many troubled and/or addicted to a variety of substances, most with poor self-control, self-image, and a plethora of bad habits.
It was little more than a holding pattern for most of the children - a place to come in out of the cold, with many of the students runaways or abandoned. It was a safe place, a warm bed, healthy food, and guidance, but they were hampered by lack of funding until their benefactor, Tiffany Brigham Bittmore, stepped in to donate the building for the Higher Power Cleansing Center for Youths and a financial trust to help with the considerable expenses.
The bodies of twelve girls were found there, all murdered shortly after the school closed; the girls were drowned in a bathtub and their bodies were concealed between the walls.[1]
