The Universe According to Roarke – A holo or comp game that Feeney put together - it was one of Eve’s Christmas gifts for Roarke in Memory in Death. It was a personalized game where you start out at the bottom and it was pretty much wits only. Then you can earn money, arms, and land. You can build stuff and fight wars, you can pull in other people - all the In Death regulars are in there. You can take on famous foes. “You can cheat, steal, barter, and bloody, but there are a lot of traps, so you can end up broke, destitute, in a cage, or tortured by your enemies. Or you could end up ruling the known universe. The graphics are chilly.” Feeney had it up and running and had been playing for two weeks but couldn’t get by level twelve, which was pissing him off. Eve said because he didn’t get to steal in real life anymore, she thought he would get a kick out of virtual. He told her “The best present is having a woman who knows me.”[1]

When Roarke played it the next day, he had Eve in a pitched and bloody battle, wielding a sword instead of a blaster. Roarke fought back-to-back with her, as he had in reality. Peabody was wounded but still game, and Eve was dressed in some sort of leather deal more suited for S and M than swordplay. When she lopped off her opponent’s head, the comp announced Roarke had reached Level Eight. Roarke told her that Feeney had added costume options, and he’d had an entertaining hour fiddling with wardrobe as well as taking over most of Europe and North America while Eve slept in. The game was programmed for multiple players.[2]
