Description[]
- He was ghostly pale with eyes that were almost colorless and full of bitter rage; he had an oxygen mask fixed over his face. For a sick man, his voice was strong enough.[1]
- His face was round and doughy (possibly from steroids).[2]
Personality[]
- According to Gil Newkirk’s notes, from when Pella was questioned nine years ago regarding The Groom’s murders, Pella was reclusive, hot-tempered, and angry.[3]
History[]
- Served as a soldier on the Home Force during the Urban Wars, and in them had lost a brother, a sister, and his bride of two months. His wife had served as a medic. He had never remarried, had opened and operated three successful restaurants before selling out eight years before.[3]
- About his service, he said, “Killed men women, too. But they called it heroic. She (his wife, Therese) was busy saving lives when they killed her. Somebody probably said that was heroic. None of it was. Killing’s killing, and you never get it out of your head.”[4]
- He and his wife were married in April, he was a corporal and she a medic in the Home Force. In July, she was killed after an explosion in the area of SoHo and Tribeca. She had been dispatched to help the wounded and, despite wearing the red cross, she was kit by sniper fire while trying to reach the wounded. She was twenty years old when she was killed.[5]
- He said Lowell was a few years younger than him but didn’t serve; he was soft. He described Edwina Springs as beautiful, young, and elegant with a voice like an angel. They lived on the West Side.[6]
- He described James Lowell (“Taker”) as too old for Edwina as she was half his age, vital, and beautiful. Pella thinks they found out about Edwina and the soldier and killed her.[7]
Interesting Facts[]
- Owned a restaurant where one of The Groom’s victims, Anise Waters, had worked.[8]
- He said that it was a tumor that was killing him; he’d been beating it back for ten years.[9]
- He knew Robert Lowell and Edwina but said they were the elite while he was only a soldier.[10]
