Delong, Vance
Appeared in Promises in Death (Spring 2060)
Personal Information[]
- Description: He stood a little under average height, looked mid-forties and fit – strong through the shoulders.[1]
- Age: mid-40s
- Hair: Black
- Occupation: Lieutenant NYPSD, Eighteenth squad (House 42)[2]
Description[]
- He had a crop of wavy black hair swept back from a thin face.[1]
Personality[]
- He was straight out (direct), with an authoritative snap.[3] He was a steady-as-it-goes type and stuck mostly with the paperwork. He stood for his men but Eve Dallas found his going to Commander Whitney – to complain about her investigation – weak of him.[4]
- He was a family man, authoritative, who liked to keep things low-key.[5] He possessed solid leadership qualities and was better suited to running a small squad than he might be in helping a larger, more complex department.[5]
Interesting Facts[]
- Delong said that his squad of four worked as a squad in which one detective would partner with any other detective. He said Amaryllis Coltraine was solid; a detail cop.[6]
- He told Eve that he resented her looking at his squad during her investigation. He particularly resented that she was pushing at his squad at the memorial service at Cop Central.[7]
- He had twenty years on the job with more administrative interests and skills than investigative. He rarely worked in the field, but did so on occasion.[5]
